Players planning to pick up Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 should set aside roughly 210 GB of console storage, according to Gamer.no. The figure surfaced about three weeks ahead of the game's 19 November release, and the outlet reports that the number has since been corroborated.
Gamer.no writes that the storage requirement was first posted by the social media account "PlayStation Game Size," after which the site Insider Gaming reported that the figure is accurate.
Why it matters
For anyone who has watched a modern console drive fill up, the number is more than trivia. A 210 GB install would place Rockstar's next title among the largest games ever released when measured purely in bytes, Gamer.no notes. Players who intend to download on day one may need to clear space well before launch, and those with smaller drives or several installed games face the most obvious squeeze.
Gamer.no also points out that the figure is not necessarily the final word. It is still unclear whether part of the 210 GB consists of temporary installation files, which would mean the settled size ends up somewhat smaller.
A heavyweight, but not the heaviest
Gamer.no frames the figure as consistent with what Rockstar has signaled previously about the scale of the project. The outlet adds that certain Call of Duty titles still hold the record for sheer bulk, while the new Vice City entry takes its place among the biggest games by raw size.
For comparison, Gamer.no cites IGN's figure for Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar's previous major release, which needed about 100 GB on PlayStation 4 in 2018. The new game, if the 210 GB figure holds, would ask for roughly double that.
The reported size also fits the picture the studio has painted of the game itself. Gamer.no notes that this summer's extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI suggested a highly detailed world with a very large number of activities available to players.
What is confirmed and what is not
The 210 GB figure applies to the PlayStation 5 version, per Gamer.no's reporting. A size for Xbox Series X/S has not been confirmed, though the outlet expects it to land somewhere in the same range.
Gamer.no cautions that details can still shift before release, citing the possibility of day-one updates as one example. Even so, PS5 owners now have a working estimate for how much room they will need to free up.
Pre-orders come with an early start: Gamer.no reports that those who have pre-ordered can begin downloading a week ahead of launch, on 12 November. The game itself arrives on 19 November.
What to watch next is whether Rockstar or Sony publishes an official storage requirement, and whether the Xbox Series X/S figure lands close to the PS5 number.
